Publisher review:DBD Adabas module is an Adabas driver for DBI. This is the DBD::Adabas module. In fact it is DBD::ODBC, but I (Jochen Wiedmann) have picked up the original DBD::ODBC, incorporated the changes that have been required for Adabas (and which have been included into DBD::ODBC by Jeff Urlwin in the meantime, so you even won't need changes) and modified the drivers name.
The reason for installing under a separate name is this: When installing under the name DBD::ODBC, you cannot install another database driver under the same name. The optimal solutidatabase my point of view, would be if DBD::ODBC would offer itself to choose the module name. However, we can live with the current situation.
Another reason is, that Adabas (or at least the Adabas ODBC driver) in some cases has quite strange restrictions, that make the ODBC test suite fail: For example, a LONG column must be inserted via bind_param() and not via quote(). Another example is, that GetInfo() offers a length of VARCHAR(4000), but result columns are restricted to a total length of 4048 bytes, making this size almost useless. Finally the SQLBindParam() function refuses a scale of 32768 bytes, because it is interpreted as a signed word.
DBD Adabas 0.2003 is a Perl script for Modules scripts design by Jochen Wiedmann.
It runs on following operating system: Windows / Linux / Mac OS / BSD / Solaris.
